When Do You Need An Air Conditioning Repair Service?

Posted on: 14 September 2021

When you own an air conditioner, you have the luxury of sheltering yourself from the outdoor weather during hot summer days. But the more you use your air conditioner, the higher the chance of it breaking down. That's why you need to know what to look for. If you wait too long to repair your air conditioner, a minor air conditioning problem could turn into something major.

To ensure that your air conditioner stays in optimal condition throughout the summer, be sure to call an air conditioning repair service if you notice the following signs.

You're getting warm air, not cold air

If your air conditioner is blowing warm air, this could be because

  • The compressor is malfunctioning
  • The filter is clogged
  • The outdoor unit is clogged with debris
  • The ductwork is clogged
  • The Freon line is leaking

As you can see, a number of issues can cause warm air to flow from your air conditioning system. The one thing that is for sure is that you need an air conditioning repair service.

The airflow is weak or non-existent

While poor airflow is often a sign of clogged ductwork or clogged filters, the issue could be something more serious, such as a malfunctioning compressor.

Your air conditioner smells funny

If an unpleasant smell emanates from your air conditioner whenever you turn it on, this could be because of mold, mildew, or bacteria. Your air conditioner's condenser coils may also need cleaning.

Your air conditioner is making a lot of noise

Squealing or grinding noises are not normal and these sounds could mean that something has broken loose. This is a definite sign that you need to call an air conditioning repair service.

Your air conditioner leaks when you turn it on

If water starts to leak out of your air conditioner when you turn it on, this is a sign of a problem with your cooling system. The condensate line and refrigerant line are the two main areas that tend to cause leaks when they are not functioning properly. And water leaking into your air conditioning can lead to mold, mildew, and even electrical faults.

Your energy bills are higher than usual

If your electricity bills have suddenly spiked unusually high, your air conditioner may need urgent repairs. When an air conditioner can't work as efficiently as usual due to malfunctioning parts, it will work harder and thus use more electricity than usual.

If your air conditioner displays any of these signs, call an air conditioning repair service immediately. Otherwise, a repair could soon turn into a replacement.
