4 Good Air Conditioning Habits To Pick Up Today

Posted on: 15 September 2015

As a homeowner with air conditioning, you want to be sure that you are doing everything possible to keep it up and running efficiently and smoothly. This means that you are going to have to work to ensure that you are picking up some good habits. Here are four to pick up today:

  1. Checking the Air Filter Regularly: The first thing you want to be sure that you do is check the air filter regularly. This is because the air filter becomes dirty really easily. If you have one that is reusable, you can easily rinse it off and wipe with a clean cloth and insert it back into place. Or, if you have one that requires one time use only, you can replace it as often as you need to depending on how dirty it is. If you aren't doing this regularly, the air conditioning in your home will suck up much more energy than is necessary because it will be working harder to push air through the dirty, clogged up filter.
  2. Rinse Off Fins on Condenser: The fins on the condenser are another area that easily becomes dirty and clogged. This is what then can easily trap dirt in the filter and make energy use skyrocket. You should easily be able to access the fins by removing the vent of the condenser and wiping down the exposed fins with a wet cloth.
  3. Follow Two-Foot Clear Zone: Be sure that you are always looking out for bushes and shrubs that may get too overgrown and crowd the condenser unit outside. If this area isn't clear at least two feet all around, then the air conditioner will have to work harder to get cold air into the home and it will also prevent it from easily being able to release hot air.
  4. Check the Registers in the Home: Finally, you should be checking the registers inside of the home to be sure that they are not blocked by things such as piled up clothing, chairs, and more. If these are blocked, then the room it is in is not getting cooled down enough and the air conditioner will begin to work harder.

By picking up these four air conditioning habits today, you can save a significant amount on your energy bill each month and ensure that your air conditioner continues to run smoothly and efficiently for a long time to come.
